Great News for Thame Museum

Thame Museum has been awarded full Museum Accreditation. The efforts of all those involved have been recognised and the potential of the museum has been increased.

Timeline to Accreditation

2003
Thame Town Council set up a Museum Working Party.

Feb 2004
Thame Museum Trust created.

Spring 2004
Thame Town Council purchased the former Magistrates' Court.

SODC awarded a Community Investment Fund grant to convert the building.

May 2005
Thame Museum Trust appointed Alan Williams of Prospectus Projects as museum designer.

November 2006
Thame Museum opened to the public.

April 2007
The Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire declared the museum officially open.

August 2008
Thame Museum Trust became a registered charity.

February 2009
Thame Museum awarded full Museum Accreditation at a panel meeting of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council on 26th February 2009.

Thame Museum's success is the result of collaboration and partnership between Thame Museum Trust, Thame Historical Society, Thame Town Council, SODC, Oxfordshire County Council's Museum Service and a range of local charities, groups and individuals.

It is truly a community venture and its recognition by the national body awarding accreditation is something of which the whole community can be proud.
